At Tokyo Station, choose a smoking room on the same side of the ticket gates as your journey. JR East and Tokaido Shinkansen areas are separate. A room marked inside the gates is not a public street-level smoking area.

Before you walk there
Find your train operator, platform and car number before walking to a room. The JR East guide requires the appropriate train tickets or an admission ticket to enter its Shinkansen area. Ask staff before crossing a transfer gate. Allow time to return to your boarding position; this guide does not estimate walking time.
