ZYN is sold in Japan; convenience store availability depends on region and store conditions

The official store guide verified on 2026/10/20 lists Lawson stores in Tokyo and select NewDays locations. It is not a nationwide or all-store rollout. ZYN by IQOS for Japan costs 500 yen for 12 pouches—do not treat it as having the same ingredients as overseas tobacco-leaf-free products.

Hello, this is Genki. Claims in the previous version of this page stating that "there are no official sales in Japan" and "the domestic version also contains no tobacco leaf" did not match current official information and have been corrected. Unsubstantiated personal import guides and statements claiming irritation is harmless have also been removed. Verified on: 2026/10/20. This is not a hands-on usage review.

Convenience Store Availability Is Not Uniform Nationwide

Covered in Official GuideConditions to Check

Other convenience storesAvailability cannot be confirmed from the official list checked this time alone; we also do not conclude that it is unsold at all stores
Stock & varietiesBeing listed on the store guide does not guarantee stock of all flavors and all strength levels

The source isofficial ZYN store guide. Dated 2026/10/15, anofficial IQOS notice regarding retail storesis also available, but details are shown only after age verification and member login. This article is based on the publicly accessible store guide and does not speculate on login-only text.

Reading the May (5) 2026 Announcement Separately from the Current Store List

PMJ announcement dated 2026/4/23states that sales expand to Tokyo starting 5/11. The 6 products eligible at Lawson at that time were Low/Medium of Cool Mint, Spearmint, and Peach. The table in our old article claiming "Spearmint is excluded at convenience stores while Apple Mint is included" had this announcement backward. This describes eligible products at that time and does not indicate individual store stock in month 10.

The current official list also includes IQOS Flagship Ginza and IQOS shops and corners in Tokyo. We retract the old claims of "no official sales" and "obtainable only via overseas mail order." Domestic distribution of Japan-market products and import rules for overseas-spec products are separate issues.

Sensation level labelingLow/Medium/Strong
Number of products4 flavors × 3 levels = 12 products. This does not mean every store carries all of them

Price and lineup were verified via theofficial ZYN product guide, and the Strong launch timing and 500 yen price for 12 pouches were verified onpage 2 of the PMJ release attachment. "Low," "Medium," and "Strong" indicate sensation intensity, not numerical levels of health risk relative to other products. We do not copy mg figures from overseas products onto domestic ones, nor do we post figures unverified in official materials.

Strong Release Date and Relationship to Existing Flavorsdistinguishes between an added "strength" and a new "flavor."

ZYN for Japan Contains Powdered Tobacco Leaf

ingredient explanation in the official Japan FAQstates that it contains finely ground tobacco leaf powder and tobacco-leaf-derived ingredients. Even under the same ZYN brand name, applying overseas product descriptions directly to the Japan version leads to mix-ups regarding tobacco leaf content, pouch count, and labeling. There is also no basis for the old claim that "it is food-derived so swallowing is harmless."

Being Smoke-Free Is Separate from Usage Permission and Safety

ZYN is an oral tobacco product used without combustion or heating, but it contains nicotine and carries addictiveness and health risks. This article does not recommend it to non-users of tobacco or nicotine. Whether indoors or outdoors, follow the rules of your municipality, facility, or organization. You cannot assume it is universally permitted anywhere with a no-smoking sign.

important safety information from the manufacturerinstructs users not to chew or swallow pouches and to store them out of reach of children. Do not dismiss mouth irritation or discomfort as "fine once you get used to it"—stop use and consult a physician if necessary. In the event of accidental use or ingestion by a child, immediate medical attention is advised.

Check Destination Regulations Before Taking ZYN Overseas

Even if a product is sold in Japan, bringing it into another country is not necessarily permitted. As seen inOur guide to Australia’s 2026-7 nicotine pouch rule changes, traveler exemptions may be abolished. Do not assume ingredients, quantities, or import conditions are identical just because the product name matches.
